JEDDAH — Mouawad, the luxury jeweler and watchmaker, and Hekayat, leaders in designing and manufacturing Abayas and caftans in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, presented a new collection at the Mouawad boutique here.
With special touches that carry the theme of Ramadan, the new collection was realized by Saudi designers, Alia and Abeer Oraif, and was showcased during a VIP event attended by design experts and ladies of society.
The event, hosted by Mouawad, was attended by a number of renowned fashion designers, connoisseurs and media representatives from all over the Kingdom.
During the event a vast collection of unique designs that took inspiration from the 1920s was showcased.
In that period the designs were rich and sophisticated, reflecting the luxury, the happiness, the enthusiasm and the social and technological progress of the period and ladies used to accompany their outfit with jeweleries studded with diamonds and pearls.
“This season we choose to go back to the 1920s, the age of beauty, luxury and jeweleries, to draw inspiration for our collection,” said Alia and Abeer Oraif, designers and founders of Hekayat.
Commenting on the collection, Ahmed Al Hebshi, General Manager of Mouawad for Saudi Arabia, said: “We, at Mouawad, are very proud of this collection that was realized by two young Saudi female designers and which reflects the amazing talent of the Saudi society. Through this event we would like to build upon the strong connection that Mouawad has with the Saudi society and that has been going on for more than 60 years now.”
“We would like to thank Mouawad for this incredible opportunity, we are proud to showcase our latest collection in one of the brand’s biggest boutiques in the Middle East. The Abaya, if considered one of the items that best characterizes Saudi women, and this collection will play a leading role in meeting the demands of the local market,” said Alia and Abeer Oraif.
They added: “Our captivating designs for this season are not only focused on Abayas, but also take a different approach to tell the story behind the theme.
“Our new line of caftans embroidered with gold and crystal threads, realized using the highest quality fabrics, including silk, organza and lace, in order to embody our message: every story has a beginning and our beginning is Hekayat.”
Hekayat was established last Ramadan with the launch of a collection of Abayas targeting Saudi women who travel regularly abroad and feel uncomfortable wearing the traditional Abaya.
This collection features special designs that differ from those of the classical Abayas.
Last year, Hekayat launched different collections, each with a distinct identity and for a certain occasion. — SG
